Joe spent part of last summer training in Santa Monica with other NHL players such as Chris Chelios and Bob Probert. He also spent some time with his daughter, Krystal, in Chicago and also visited Michigan. His favorite food to eat before games is pasta. In his spare time, Joe enjoys reading. He is part owner of the New Mexico Scorpions of the Western Professional Hockey League, along with teammate Bernie Nicholls. This season, Joe has started a unique program called "Joe's Row," where he has purchased 10 tickets to all Sharks home games and will use the tickets to reward youth organizations that are making a difference in our community. Joe also owns Lakefront Fitness in Chicago, a workout facility offering free weights, in line hockey facilities and other fitness equipment on the beachfront of Lake Michigan. Joe enjoys surfing the internet to follow his other investments in the stock market. His favorite hockey memory is winning the Stanley Cup with Edmonton in 1990.

Joe Murphy is a veteran who was acquired from St. Louis for Todd Gill (good trade). Joe was drafted first overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 1986. He gives his best every game, and contributes regularly to the Sharks offense. Joe is definitely one of the best players on the team.
