Murray and his wife, Sheri, have two daughters named Haley and Sara. They make their offseason home in Whitefish, Montana, where Murray is an avid fisherman and golfer, and a neighbor of Sharks center Ron Sutter. Last summer, he was able to use his fishing boat that he received from the Sharks training staff to honor his 1000th NHL game played on March 30, 1998 at St. Louis. He caught a personal best nine pound rainbow trout. While a member of the Flyers, Murray was selected by Philadelphia media as the Flyers Class Guy Award-winner for his outstanding relationship with the media. Murray's family owns a ranch that he works on (a little) during the summer. Murray hopes to one day climb to the top of Mt. Everest. He has served as captain or alternate captain for three different teams including Hartford, Chicago and San Jose. Murray switched to number 32 this season after wearing number 22 last year.
