Last summer, he, his wife Amanda, their daughters, and the family dog, a Labrador retriever named Rosco, took a camping trip tp Delewan Inn in Muskoka, Ontario, just north of Toronto. Shawn, who says one of his off-ice ambitions is to learn to play the ukulele or harp, wore number 28 last season but changed his number this year to 7. During the summer, he conducts a hockey school in the Detroit area. He and former teammate Dino Ciccarelli, co-own Shawn's home town Sarnia Sting of the OHL. He has posted three career hat tricks, the most recent on Oct. 18, 1993, when he played at Buffalo for Detroit. Shawn recorded his 1,000th career penalty minute on Jan. 24, 1998, vs. Florida.

Shawn Burr is a gritty player whose determination is one of his best assets. He was a good acquisition for the Sharks, who generally need more players who are not afraid to give and take hits. Shawn was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lighting for a Sharks 1997 5th round draft pick on July 21, 1997. Hard skating, no-nonsense player, intelligent and dedicated. A winning team has to dress such role players. Burr, who had a great junior career but never could transfer his scoring touch to the NHL, turned out as a sound checking winger.
